Calgary Sport Council announces annual award winners.
Calgary, AB., September 30, 2010 – An important part of the Annual Mayor’s Sport Breakfast is to recognize the contribution of sport and business organizations that provide leadership and support to the sport community in Calgary.
The 2010 Leadership and Sport Excellence Award recipient is the Greater Calgary Amateur Football Association.
Greater Calgary Amateur Football Association has been working hard for seven years raising money to create three new artificial turf fields at Shouldice Athletic Park. These fields offer extended hours of play time due to the enhanced lighting and the potential for longer seasons. This is positively impacting teams as they have more opportunities to practice and compete. Today their work can be seen as all three fields have been completed and are currently being used by multiple football organizations, and other field sport activities such as field hockey, lacrosse, soccer and ultimate.
The 2010 Business and Sport Excellence Award recipient is INTACT Insurance Company of Canada.
Intact Insurance Company of Canada sponsorship in speed skating began seven years ago with Calgary’s Olympic Oval. Since then it has evolved into support for every level – from the grassroots athlete to the Canada’s Olympic best. Intact’s partnership includes direct financial support of national team athletes; and the development of future speed skaters through the Intact Oval Finale competition and capturing the passion of Canadian speed skating through the Intact Speed Skating Challenge. Intact’s enduring partnership with speed skating has demonstrated how corporate Calgary can develop a meaningful relationship within the City’s sport community.
Calgary Sport Council wishes to thank all the attendees for their support of this year’s Breakfast.
